Beauty and the Beast Set

Prompt: Design three pieces of dinner wear to match the theme and culture of a restaurant.

A restaurant’s atmosphere is created from distinguished elements in the environment and theme providing each visitor with a unique dining experience beginning to end. Dishware is an intricate part of the architecture of the meal; how it is delivered, how it is displayed, and ultimately how the meal is consumed by the guest. Special care and consideration should be in play when designing each piece of a dishware set, to include cohesiveness, coordination, and theme to fulfill the table side piece of the presentation.

Unique Design Opportunities

Wheeled Carts

All of the food is rolled out on wheeled carts which allows for the dishes to be a bit heavier than typical.

Disney Exaggeration

Since our restaurant is located in Walt Disney World, I can take advantage of exaggerated design and it would still fit in.

Dark and Eerie

We are focusing on the West Wing of the Beast’s Castle, so we are able to use darker and eerier elements than we would be able to in the rest of the castle

1800’s Castle

The restaurant is set in a 1800’s style castle that is filled with high class architecture. This means that the dishware can be fancy over-the-top as well.

The Beauty and Beast set was designed with multiple small, thoughtful pieces of the bigger story. The use of the raised filigrees on the surface is to pronounce the elegance of traditional Rococo design found in the Beast’s Castle. The deep purple hues and scattered vines are to depict the dark, overgrown feel of the West Wing. The cast iron latticework represents the boldness and power of the story and character development. The use of stark white represents the pristineness of the French cuisine restaurant service and table settings.
