It’s me!
I’m Asheton Arnold, a recent Industrial Design graduate from Georgia Tech with a BS in Industrial Design and a Minor of Computing and Devices.
When I began my collegiate journey at Georgia Tech, I was on an entirely different track, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. While math and science have always come very easy for me, it wasn’t what challenged or excited me. I was fortunate enough to be involved in a fraternity that encouraged and inspired me to consider other paths that weren’t as “easy” or “safe”…and definitely not expected! After extensive research and consideration, I changed my major to Industrial Design. As a designer, math and science will always be a part of my work, but now the focus had shifted to creative, rendering this change epic enough that I could finally imagine my future!
My passion for experience design was established early as our family frequented Disney and Universal theme parks throughout my childhood. The impeccable immersiveness of Disney and Universal was and always will be awe-inspiring for me. My appreciation for each ride and show has evolved significantly over time. When I was a little guy, it was about anticipation, excitement, and the wonder of each experience. Now, I cannot lie, the anticipation, excitement, and wonder are still firmly in place (always magic!) but now there is the desire to soak up the elements of each experience…each color, shape, sound, smell, movement, etc.
As I got older, I was given opportunities to use my creativity through school and other organizations. My involvement and subsequent life-long love of the theater has served as one of the biggest catalysts in imagining bigger and better things for myself and my future. Without the amazing experience of the theater and its stories, I would still be in math and science, doing fine, but missing the part of me that I am most proud of. I would miss the part that hopes to inspire kids and adults to discover the awe-inspiring wonder of experience.
While Disney and Universal were my initial introductions to experience-based activities, over the years I have yearned to dive deeper into this entertainment platform. I have participated in escape rooms, haunted houses, immersive experiences, virtual reality games, live theater, art installations, theme parks, interactive events, and more. These helped me to understand and open my imagination further into opportunities and possibilities for my own future in design. Each experience adding to my excitement and motivation!
It is my goal to find a future that allows me to use my love of design and immersive experience. I hope to find the holy-grail opportunity that allows me to grow, develop, and mature my skills and talents through experiences with established teams and individuals. It’s my dream to imagine and create products and services that elevate and influence the direction, execution, and future of the immersive experience.
